I have seen firsthand the excitement my children have when they see pictures of themselves and the people they love in print. Their love and excitement is so pure. Family dynamics are always changing, whether the family is growing or your kids are physically just getting bigger. No matter what the situation is for you, it's likely time has gotten away from you and a new family picture is needed.
The Details
Family sessions are no longer what they used to be with everyone posing for a single shot, where hopefully everyone is smiling and looking. Today, family sessions offer a lot more flexibility from location to the variety of poses and more. My typical family sessions run about an hour and, at a minimum, always include at least pose of the following groupings: full family, parents, and any children you have. Beyond that, you can tell me what groupings you would like to have and I'll take care of everything else. My goal with these sessions is to go with the flow while concentrating those initial pictures on ones with small children, if your family has those.

Family sessions are for big kids, too.
You may be to that stage in life where your kids are all in high school or older. Maybe your kids now have their own families. Wherever you are in life, those family pictures still hold value, whether your kids think it is necessary or not!
These family sessions can be whatever you need them to be. You can focus on special moments between grandparents and grandkids, individual family units, just your kids/ the grandkids, or getting the whole family to smile for a picture. Since this type of session typically involves more people, it is best for these sessions to be on location, where there is plenty of space for everyone to be themselves.
